The fall in waiting lists in Bradford and across Yorkshire is an important first step on the NHS’s road to recovery.

We all deserve an NHS that is fit for the future, so that patients get treatment quickly when needed.

Today marks the start of #ArmedForcesWeek, where we recognise the profound contribution of our servicemen and women to the safety of the United Kingdom.

This morning, I caught up with @sbsjcc headteacher Mr Bentley Mgsr Paul Grogan.

After successfully securing SBSJ bus services for another year, we kicked off the campaign to make sure a permanent solution is found so students can keep getting to school safely and on time.

How wonderful to welcome pupils from St Oswald's Primary to Parliament this week, to learn all about the role of MPs, and my role as Commons Deputy Speaker.

It's always a welcome treat to welcome Bradford South schools to Westminster!

Good to have one of my regular catch-ups with West Yorkshire Police Bradford South's Inspector Beecroft.

We discussed policing issues across the constituency and recent policing successes including Operation Trimburg, which saw action against the fatal five driving offences.

Great to be out and about talking to residents over the campaign weekend.

I met with Kit from @stjohn_ambulance to hear how their 'Switch on to Spiking' campaign is aiming to teach 15,000 young people how to recognise and respond to spiking.

We also spoke about training the nation on first aid and ensuring accessibility to life-saving defibrillators.

🌞 During my recent visit to St John's C of E in Bierley, I met with headteacher Mr Knight and Richard from Solar for Schools to talk about the school and academy's work to make their school greener, save money and inspire the next generation!

This week, I met with Gareth, the head of @forgetmenotchild Children's Hospice to hear their work supporting children and their families, and the challenges childrens hospices face

Today, I had a productive meeting with the CEO of @Morrisons, Rami Baitiéh, to discuss the services and job opportunities in Bradford South. Morrisons has deep roots in our community, and I'm committed to ensuring we work together to support local jobs, improve services, and boost economic growth in our area. What a pleasure to speak with my constituent Kadie last week about the vital work of @plan_uk and the challenges faced by women and girls each and every day. Thank you for taking the time to speak to me about such an important issue.

I was honoured to address the Third Parliamentary Summit of the Internation Crimea Platform in Latvia last week, in my role as Commons Deputy Speaker.

Every 10 minutes, someone in the UK hears the words "you have breast cancer".

I'm supporting @breastcancernow on #WearItPink day so that everyone diagnosed with breast cancer gets the best outcomes and continues to live well.

Speaking with young people - our leaders of tomorrow - is always one of the best parts of being an MP!

Today I met with Year 3s at Wibsey Primary School to talk about the work of an MP and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, and to hear from their student MPs about their work to improve their school!

It was also a pleasure to speak with Chris, Chief Exec of @bradfordbullsfoundation_ to congratulate them in person on a brilliant funding result from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Thank you to Julie-Anne and her team of amazing volunteers and staff at St Vincent's Centre SVP for hosting me at their Bradford Social Enterprise this morning!

Their advice team provide free, expert welfare advice across Bradford South, supporting residents across the constitency.

Based just outside the city centre, the social enterprise is a fantastic community hub for upcycling furniture, white goods, all sorts of volunteering opportunities, and a place for a cup of tea and a friendly chat.

🎥It's been another busy week in Parliament - watch my latest two-minute roundup of what I've been up to in Westminster and in Bradford South:

♻ On Monday, I Chaired a motion approve the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation. This will encourage the production and use of renewable fuels in the transport sector. With these steps, the UK moves closer to energy independence.

💊 I also chaired a motion to approve the Draft Human Medicines Regulations. This will expand access to important life-saving drugs.

🏫 In the evening, I presided over a motion on the creation of a Parliamentary modernisation committee. This new committee will look ways of improving the way that Parliament works for you.

On Tuesday, I Chaired the difficult debate on Winter Fuel Payments. As Deputy Speaker, it was my job to ensure that as many voices as were possible were heard in Parliament on this important issue - Potentially 650 members in 90 minutes.

I appreciate the concerns of people across Bradford South on this issue. Rest assured, I have raised these concerns about the Winter Fuel Allowance directly with the Government.

🏠 On Wednesday, I chaired a debate on Building Safety and Resilience. No one should fear for their safety in their own home.

On Thursday, I chaired a general debate on issues which need to be raised before the Political Party Conference season begins.

💖💚💛And in the afternoon, I was back in Bradford for the exciting launch of Bradford City of Culture!

This will be a fantastic opportunity to show the world what is best about Bradford.

🐮Today, I met with Bradford Bulls RLFC to talk about how they are getting on and, we'll also discuss the future of Rugby League in Bradford South and beyond.

I was pleased to make a donation of Country Food Trust's wholesome Country Pheasant meals to the Vine last week. They will be used by volunteers like Dani to support members of the community.

📽 Here's my two-minute round-up on what I've been up to on my first week back in Parliament after the summer recess!

On Monday, I was responsible for Chairing two Ministerial Statements. The first was on limiting some arms exports to Israel. The second was on the recent violent disorder following the Southport attack.

It is my role as Deputy Speaker to make sure that, when MPs debate these important issues, they do so with respect for one another and everyone gets the chance to raise their voice.

Early on Tuesday, I met with Sport England to discuss future of sport in Bradford South, and we also discussed the importance of sport for Bradford City of Culture.

In the afternoon, I Chaired the Public Ownership Bill. This will bring about publicly owned railway services. This will ensure that passengers, both in Bradford South are put at the heart of how our railway services are run.

On Wednesday, I attended the launch of Blood Cancer UK’s landmark. We discussed how we can level the playing field for all patients.

In the afternoon, I resumed my duties as the Deputy Speaker, Chairing the Budget Responsibility Bill. No Government should be able to play fast and loose with public finances. We will never again see a repeat of the disastrous mini-budget.

On Thursday, I Chaired Business and Trade Questions, this gives MPs the opportunity to question ministers.

And on Friday, I’m back home to Bradford South, where amongst other things, I am meeting with West Yorkshire Police to discuss policing across Bradford South, and holding one of my where my constituents can come and see me and tell me about the issues of the day that are concerning them.

This afternoon, I attended the launch of the @bloodcancer_uk report to bring blood cancer out of the shadows, setting out a plan of action for swifter diagnosis and the quality care to ensure the best possible chance of survival.

What a privilege to formally re-open Buttershaw Youth Centre today!

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in breathing new life into this wonderful space that will continue to be a thriving community venue for years to come!
