Bradford South MP, Judith Cummins has today warmly welcomed the Government’s announcement of an improved compensation package for armed forces veterans who suffer from mesothelioma disease.
This follows an ongoing campaign to address unfair treatment of veterans who will die from cancer caused by asbestos exposure during their time in service.
A better deal for veterans who are victims of mesothelioma disease has been secured thanks to campaigning by the Royal British Legion and Labour’s work throughout the passage of the Armed Forces Bill.
Judith Cummins MP said:
“This was a blatant breach of the Armed Forces Covenant. Our veterans who suffer from this terrible disease have been receiving substantially less compensation than civilians. I’m delighted that we have finally forced the Government into action.
“We owe a duty of care to our Service Personnel, who put their lives on the line to keep our country safe. This news is a great victory for all those who have campaigned so long and so hard for this injustice to be not only be recognised but resolved.”
