I am shocked and saddened by the tragic events during today’s annual Hajj pilgrimage. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected, their families and friends.
Many thousands of pilgrims from Bradford will have travelled to take part in the Hajj and so this will be an extremely anxious time for many families across Bradford, who await news from their loved ones.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has urged worried relatives in the UK to contact its switchboard on 020 7008 1500.
I also understand that the Bradford Council for Mosques is setting up a local helpline. I’ll add this to my website as soon as it becomes available.
