Bradford South MP, Judith Cummins, attended Gala Bingo off Tong Street to take part in a nationwide charity event at Bingo Clubs up and down the country, to mark a £250,000 donation to Variety, the Children’s Charity from the industry.
Representing 98% of all retail bingo clubs, The Bingo Association has been raising funds for charity partner Variety, the Children’s Charity, throughout the last year. Bingo clubs across the country, representing over 59 different Bingo operators, have been taking part in a range of fundraising activities including football tournaments, Sunshine Day parties, cake sales, special £1 games and prize draws, as well as a nation-wide charity fundraiser event in September.
Judith joined members of Gala Bingo in her Bradford South constituency to present the cheque to Variety, the Children’s Charity, supports children and young people in the UK who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged, believing that neither disability nor disadvantage should prevent a child from realizing his or her full potential. The charity has supported over 800,000 children in the UK to date.
Judith Cummins MP, said: “What a fantastic effort by members of the Bingo Association both here in Bradford and throughout the UK, I’m sure that the £250,000 will be put to great use, supporting children and young people in the UK who are poorly, disabled or disadvantaged”.
Miles Baron, Chief Executive of The Bingo Association, said: “The cheque handover for Variety was a great success and we are delighted to have been able to support the important work that Variety does up and down the country. Bingo players and staff are known for their generosity and this very significant sum for Variety, the Children’s Charity, underlines that reputation.”
Mike Haszko, Head of Corporate Fundraising and Deputy Head of Fundraising at Variety, said: “We are entirely reliant upon the support of the public and organisations such as The Bingo Association and its members to help fund the hugely important work we do. We are immensely grateful for this generous donation which will help us provide coaches, wheelchairs and specialist equipment to improve the lives of hundreds of disadvantaged and disabled children all over the UK.”
