Bradford South Police were joined by local MP Judith Cummins on patrol to show her the latest pressures the force is under.
Between 2010 – 2019 West Yorkshire Police Force have had their budget cut by over £110 million. This has resulted in the loss of over 700 police officers.
Judith Cummins MP comments: “For almost a decade the thin blue line has been getting thinner. It’s all very well the Prime Minister suddenly promising thousands of new police officers, but this will not come close to the numbers the Tories have cut since 2010.
“For nine years the Tories have cut our police force to the bare bones, while violent crime rates have gone through the roof. Police should be fighting crime, not fighting for funding.”
During the day Judith joined the Patrol South Neighbourhood team, led by Inspector Carl O’Brien, who looks after policing in Bradford South.
Inspector Carl O'Brien, Bradford South Neighbourhood Team, comments: “I am happy our local MP Judith Cummins took time out of her busy schedule to see first-hand the demands faced by officers every day in keeping the people of Bradford safe.
“Judith spent some time on patrol with uniformed officers in her own constituency as well as experiencing the complex issues faced by officers in trying to safeguard the more vulnerable members living in our communities.”
Judith regularly joins the police on patrol in Bradford South, and recently met with the new Bradford Police Chief Superintendent Osman Khan to discuss issues raised to her by local people.
The visit was part of the ‘Give a Day to Policing’ campaign, set up by the National Police Chiefs’ Council to show MPs the difficulties that police officers are currently facing.
Judith continues: “It was an invaluable experience to once again spend the day with our courageous police officers in Bradford South. They are under immense pressure and strain to keep all of us safe and it us a Labour government that will provide the long-term funding that they need.”
Last month Judith met with the new West Yorkshire Police Chief Constable, John Robins, to discuss the key priorities in Bradford South.
