In Holme Wood, there is a new adventure playground created by The Valley Project charity. Judith was delighted to visit to show her support.
The playground is based off Stirling Crescent, behind the TFD Youth Centre. It is a permanent fixture for local children to enjoy a great space to play in.
Judith was joined by Tong community organiser Tom Hughes for the tour of the site and they were both shown around by Laura Bowen and Steven McHugh, the two project coordinators of The Valley Project.
Judith Cummins MP, said: “It was great to see the amazing work that Laura and Steve have done to create this site. They have both shown wonderful community spirit and I am glad that Bradford Council has granted them a lease on the land.
“The adventure playground provides a really great space for our children to enjoy, and it has quickly become a real asset to the local community. This is why I will continue to support The Valley Project and I look forward to seeing them provide this great service for years to come.”
The adventure playground is already open for local children to enjoy from 2pm – 6pm on Tuesday – Friday, and from midday on Saturday. An official opening is set to take place later this summer.
Laura Bowen, project coordinator of The Valley Project, said: “It’s great to have the backing from our local MP. Judith has been so supportive during her visits and in promoting our project to the wider community. We hope to continue this positive relationship in the future, as the project develops.
“The Valley Project is working with the community to transform the Valley into a ‘junk’ adventure playground. Children and young people shape the space, building dens, tree houses, play structures and rope swings, with experienced staff on hand to provide support, guidance and develop better community cohesion.”
The site has had many items donated to them from local businesses. All local companies, charities and public sector organisations are urged to consider whether items they no longer need could be used as part of the adventure playground. If they might then get in touch with Laura on Laura.firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tom Hughes, Tong community organiser, said: “This is exactly the type of thing I wish I had when I was growing up here in Tong. Both Laura and Steve have done a great job putting the adventure playground together, and I cannot wait to see how they will continue to develop the space to make it even better for local kids to enjoy.”
